Arm Lift
No Two Arm Lifts Alike
Loose skin can gather anywhere between the elbow and the underarm. Dr. Charleston Chua plans the incision according to your needs rather than using a template. He can even add liposuction to your surgical plan if stubborn fat pockets remain.
Post-Weight-Loss Experience
Arm lift patients often come to us after major weight loss to finalize their results. Body contouring makes up a large share of the caseload for our plastic surgeon in San Diego, CA, so this is familiar territory.
Honest Consultations
Dr. Chua will provide plain answers to your questions during your consultation. He’ll review where the scar will sit, how it fades, and what the recovery will look like. Dr. Chua will make sure you understand the arm lift procedure, pre-op, and post-op care before you commit.

What to Expect During and After Surgery
- Anesthesia: Arm lifts are typically performed under general anesthesia, so you can sleep through your procedure. These generally take a few hours to complete.
- Incisions: Dr. Chua will make an incision in the underside of each arm, where any scarring will be hidden. He will remove excess skin between the elbow and underarm.
- Liposuction: If you have excess fatty tissue, Dr. Chua can use liposuction to remove it and further contour your arms.
- Tightening & Sutures: Dr. Chua will place sutures to create a tighter skin envelope and hold everything in place as you heal. Sutures are removed about 10 days after your surgery.
- Return Home: Arm lift surgery is an outpatient procedure, so you can return home after a brief monitoring period.
- Rest: Plan on about two weeks of rest with your arms elevated. Avoid strenuous exercise for about five weeks. Short walks are encouraged.
Combining an Arm Lift With Other Procedures
While an arm lift can be enough to boost your self-confidence on its own, some of our San Diego patients choose to combine it with other procedures. Depending on your goals, Dr. Chua can combine your arm lift with:
When done together, the procedures share one anesthesia event and one recovery window instead of a separate round of each.

FAQ About Arm Lift Surgery in San Diego, CA
Will an arm lift leave visible scars?
Every arm lift leaves a scar, but placement makes the difference. Dr. Chua keeps incisions as small and inconspicuous as he can, and he is known for clean, barely visible suture lines. Healing ointments and limiting sun exposure during the first year help the scar fade.
Are there nonsurgical alternatives to an arm lift?
Nonsurgical skin tightening can produce mild improvement for early skin laxity. For moderate to severe loose skin on the upper arms, surgery is the most reliable way to remove it.
How long do arm lift results last?
Results are long-lasting if you’re able to maintain a stable weight. However, because your natural healing process will continue, you can expect that your skin laxity will continue to change over time. A healthy lifestyle goes a long way in helping you get the most from your results.
