HOW IS LIPOSUCTION PERFORMED?
Liposuction is performed in an outpatient setting under general anesthesia. A very small incision is made through the skin so a cannula can be placed. We will use the cannula to work the fatty tissue loose so we can vacuum it out. Once the desired amount of fatty tissue has been removed, Dr. Chua will close the incision. Depending on your treatment plan, your procedure may last 1 – 3 hours. In the recovery area, your post-op team will assist you with managing any pain and look after your incisions until you're discharged. You may be in recovery at home for 1 – 3 weeks, depending on the number of areas treated and the amount of fat removed. It is typical to see bruising and swelling for 1 – 2 weeks. The most important thing to do after having any surgery is to give your body time to recover and heal. When you decide to return to work after your procedure, you should do your best to go slow. To build up your strength and stamina, try light workouts and go for walks as advised by Dr. Chua. Keep in mind, you may see some improvements after six weeks, but it will take 6 – 10 months until your new body shape and contour is complete.
